Different Grille For Different Moods

Because this car has been around for a while we like to make some subtle changes to the look and feel of it. The grille has been one area we have played around with. We also try to keep it sedate and period related. Just to see if people are watching we switch them every so often! These are our configurations.

Stainless Steel Aftermarket Tube Grille

This is an NOS Cal Custom 5 Tube Grille Insert. One of the many accessories that were available during the time. I have a couple of these units and this one was installed when the car was regray and run for a while. Simple and period perfect!

Stainless Steel Aftermarket Egg Crate Insert

This unit is another NOS replacement insert from the Detroit Grill Co. It was available through accessory catalogs like J.C. Whitney and others. As the name suggests it was built right here in Detroit and the box was packed with 1966 Detroit News paper. So that kind of dated the build date.

This version is built on the egg crate unit with a few add ons. We wanted something a bit different so we used a handfull of Mustang grile emblems to create a herd of running mustangs. This is just the most recent version of this grille configuration. I added another horse and had to do a bit of finagling to get it the way I think looks balanced. So for now this is what I am running.

I found another unit in poor shape but it had the lenses and clips intact. Took the 2 and made a complete unit. I fabricated a pair of backers to stabilize it in the grille and then cut a smoked plexiglass insert to replace the missing white unit. The original screw bases were damaged so I drilled them out and replaced them with aluminum nutserts. Nutserts are like pop rivets only they have threads. The light is an 1156
